I Knitted a Sherlock Scarf!

I finished my Simple Rib scarf from Skinny Scarves so I can dress like Sherlock Holmes because ..... you're supposed to dress for the job you want, I guess.

I am very excited about it.

No, really I am.  I was just trying to sneer like Sherlock.

It doesn't really work, because 1) I was impatiently dancing around in the cold watching my husband trying to work my camera, and 2) I'm more of a Watson.  It's just how it is.  Cozy sweaters, wry observations, homebody tendencies--I love you, Dr. John Watson and relate to you a whole bunch.  I bet he could even knit.  He can stitch up his own clothes (check A Study in Scarlet.  It's in there!  I promise), so I'm sure he could do a little bit of knitting in the evenings.  I like the idea of it.  It makes me happy to think of Watson working on socks by a fire after a long day.

Anyway, on to the scarf!

I used a skein of Stitch Nation's Bamboo Ewe, which is 177 yards.  That yielded a short scarf similar to what Benedict Cumberbatch wears in the television series.

Yes, I own an iron.  No, I do not know where it is.  Obviously.

But two skeins would probably yield a nice long scarf that you could loop around yourself a few times with plenty of length left.  I used Size 8 needles, but probably could have gone up a size or two just because gauge on a scarf isn't especially important to me.  The pattern is very simple, and I loved knitting it while I watched TV or rode in the car during trips through the holiday season.

Also: a skinny scarf is a swift scarf.  I mean, this is only 17 stitches across!  You can make this in no time.  Just in case you want to try out your own skinny Sherlock scarf in time for the season premiere.

And for the record, this is my actual Sherlock face:

The face I make for new episodes of Sherlock is remarkably similar to the face I make when finishing a project.  Or rereading Sherlock Holmes stories.  Or going to the yarn store.

We all have our fandoms.

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to try to go through my patterns and pick out something to work on while I watch Sherlock.  This is going to be perfect!

Maybe another scarf.

I love Sherlock. I fear that I am much more like Dr. Watson of the old movies...a bit clueless. LOL But I could make a skinny Sherlock scarf. Enjoy yours. I do not know how I missed the first episode.:( I am sure I can find a rerun.Happy New Year

I think there are some of the episodes from last season on the PBS website, and then there's always Netflix. Book Watson is probably my favorite version of Watson--he's self-deprecating, but you know he has to be pretty sharp to mostly keep up with Sherlock Holmes!
