It's been a good long while since I've written a 'favorite things' post, and I don't know why. There's plenty of things I like, and right now I'm liking crochet blogs. So I'm going to tell you about some of my favorites!
WIPs 'N Chains
Friend of the blog and Tunisian crochet designer Kim Guzman writes about all kinds of crochet things, with a little bit of her daily life thrown in for good measure. She alerts readers to new patterns that are being published, offers up yarn substitution ideas for patterns that call for discontinued yarns (God bless her for this important work), and most recently has been posting some awesome lists of links. I love when designers let their fans know about other awesome designs. Super crocheter, super blogger. If you don't follow her, then I'm maybe judging you a little.
Also, I really love that her blog name is WIPs 'N Chains. Yarn crafters are my favorite when it comes to puns and possibly dirty jokes.
Crochet Addict UK
Sue the British crocheter (I'm not sure why it matters that she's a British crocheter. It's just what I always call her in my head) posts about crochet. A lot. There are several link-ups each week for crafters and small businesses, and the occasional free pattern. She's also kind enough to review lots of Leisure Arts patterns and books and offers up her opinions for people who might be on the fence about trying out a certain booklet or technique. My favorite feature of hers are the 'What You Doing Wednesday' posts, because I'm a very nosy person and enjoy seeing what other readers are working on.
Plus 3 Crochet
Casey at Plus 3 Crochet knits and crochets beautiful things and photographs them in a beautiful way and I stare at the pictures all slack-jawed and drooly. Embarrassing but true. She designs and tries out other patterns and isn't afraid to go ahead and say when she's not as into a project as she thought she was. I don't even remember how I first came across her blog, but I'm certainly glad I did.
Do you like reading interviews with crafters who design/teach/pull off crazy feats of magical amazingness? Follow this blog. You don't? Follow this blog anyway. There are other reasons to like it, but the interviews are my favorite part. Marie--the underground crafter--really gets into the swing of National Craft Month and National Crochet Month. So now would be the perfect time to stop by and see if you want to add her to your reader.
Hint: you do.
Okay, you probably already know about this one and that's probably a good thing. Lucy, who chronicles her very cozy (cosy?) life in a quiet English village has a thing for color. Lots of color. We talk about her in slightly confused yet respectful tones in my knitting group. She puts wayyyy more detail into her projects than I would ever want to, but that's why she's amazing and I'm lazy. Still, though, whenever I get excited about mixing up my granny square colors I do start wondering "How would this look if it was an Attic 24 project?" and I feel good when I think I've gone for some bright colors. Because I love bright colors.
|And I was definitely asking myself "What would Attic 24 do?" when I made these.|
Okay, that's it for now! Two things, though:
1. I didn't include pictures from anyone's blog because everyone has different rules about using pictures or using pictures only with links or quotes with permission, etc. So I just did the safest thing and didn't take pictures from anyone's blogs. Go to their sites to see pictures of their designs and projects--you'll be so happy you did!
2. I know this is a short list with only 5 blogs. These are just the ones I'm really excited about right now. If you know of some more I should be checking out, let me know in the comments because I would love to follow some more crochet blogs!
