This is our month, Makers. National Craft Month has started, and we have a lot in store for you here at Leisure Arts. We're kicking off the month with our second annual designer takeover! We invite some of our authors to come take over our Facebook and instagram pages for a few days at a time, until the whole month of March is filled with crafty DIY snippets of fun! Keep reading below to look at this year's lineup.
National Craft Month - March 2019 - Lineup
Cori George: March 5-6
Cori George is the go-to lady for planning and decorating the perfect party. She's the founder of the wildly popular blog Hey, Let's Make Stuff! , a blog devoted to DIY fun. Her book with us, Paper Party, shows us five different parties with beautiful and colorful themes. Her designs are versatile enough to use for men and women, and can be used for most occasions! We're so excited to see what kind of party she'll bring to our takeover! It will probably be llama themed, because she's obsessed with them (in a good way)!
Andi Javori: March 8-10
As the founder of Javori Designs, Andi's goal is to teach yarn crafters to be fearless! Andi is the author of Warm up With Scarves and Cowls, and if you tune in, you'll see she has much more exciting knit concepts coming down the pipeline! Will we see some stylish sneak peeks in the future? You'll have to check back during her takeover to see!
Jessi Raulet: March 11-12
As the mind behind EttaVee, Jessi has nothing but creativity to give! Her book, Happy Abstracts, emboldens even the most novice of painters to be fearless and imaginative. If you check out our video on Happy Abstracts, you can see just how many creative and cute ideas are in this book.
We're excited to see the creative ideas she brings to our social! Especially Instagram, because if you haven't seen her instagram feed yet, you're missing out. She's based in Paris right now, so maybe we'll get to see some of the sights!
Stephanie Rose: March 13
If you're earthy, and love creating your own all natural creations, then you'll fall in love with Stephanie Rose. Stephanie strives to help people live better lives through plants, and you can definitely get a great jumpstart in health and wellness when you check out her book, Home Apothecary! She's also the founder of the Garden Therapy Blog, the go to site for wonderful garden projects that will stem your curiosity, and help your love for plants bloom even more.
Kristi Simpson: March 15-17
Categories: Crochet, Knit, Macrame
Kristi Simpson has been an author with us for some time now, and actually participated in last year's designer takeover! She has produced books not just in crochet, but in knit and macrame too. She is responsible for the cute and cuddly amigurumi pattern you've made for your kids (or yourself - we don't judge), or that summer wrap you can't live without at the beach. If you haven't caught on yet, some of Kristi's most popular book with us have been Knits for Summer, and Huggable Amigurumi. But, she branches out in all types of yarn fun. We're excited to see what yarn tricks she has up her sleeve during her takeover!
Kristi will also be featured in our Leisure Life Live! segment on March 14th on Facebook Live, so maybe there will be a giveaway in your future (hint, hint).
Marly Bird: March 18-20
Categories: Crochet, Knitting
She may be Marly Bird, but she certainly is a busy bee! Not only has Marly produced many books with us (in both crochet and knit), but she also is a National Spokesperson for Red Heart Yarns, and is the host of Yarn Things Podcast. If you're familiar with the beautiful patterns in Yarn Pooling Made Easy (patterns above), then you've seen her amazing yarn work! Marly is no stranger to our Designer Takeover program either, so we're excited to see how her setup this year will differ from last year!
Tamara Kelly: March 22-24
Tamara Kelly is the Founder of Moogly Crochet blog, and is one of two bloggers we have included in our designer takeovers this year! Her blog is full of crafty and creative content and receives million of visitors each month. Tamara's designs have been featured in multiple craft magazines, and she provides tutorials as well as free patterns for all of her followers! As a Red Heart Joy Creator, we're curious to see what she brings to the leisure Arts Social Scene.
Edie Eckman: March 25-26
Categories: Crochet, Knitting, Sewing
Edie Eckman is an awesome knit and crochet teacher, designer, and editor. She's created several books of ours, like Artisan Crochet Jewelry, and Pincushions to Sew! She lives for that 'A-HA' moment from her students, when they finally understand something they were struggling to grasp. You can tell from all of her wonderful patterns that Edie really pays attention to the details, and makes every stitch count. We can't wait to see what she's bringing to our takeover this year!
Marie Segares: March 27
As proprietress of the Underground Crafter blog, Marie keeps herself busy with her crochet designs and projects. She learned to crochet from her grandmother, so she holds the particular yarn craft near and dear to her heart. But, she loves to dabble in other crafts as well, like vinyl and paper crafts. Marie is the second blogger that we are featuring this year, and we're so excited to see how she's going to run our social for the day!
Lori Wenger: March 28-29
Lori Wenger isn't just a Jewelry and Craft Designer, but also a fantastic photo Stylist and Illustrator! You've probably heard us gushing about Lori's interior design work on our Makerspace in our New Video Studio, but that's not all that Lori has done for us! She's created several craft books for us, from Aromatherapy Jewelry, to Cool String Art! Lori will also be a part of our Leisure Life LIVE! segment on March 28th, ready to bring you all some sneak peeks and craft mysteries. We're super stoked to see what Lori has for all of us!
Debra Valencia: March 30-31
Categories: Crafts, Stitching
Debra Valencia is an experienced Art Educator at Otis College of Art and Design. Debra's book with us, Free Spirit Stitching, was just recently released last month, and boy do we love the designs in it! Debra shows us that you don't need to be trained in sewing to create beautiful stitched multimedia designs. We're excited to be closing out our Designer Takeover with her, and can't wait to see what she has in store for all of us!
It's going to be an exciting month, makers! So be sure to tune in and see what it's like to be a Leisure Arts author. we'll also be doing a live Q/A on March 7th on Facebook, answering all of your burning questions about National Craft Month and becoming a designer. We hope to see you all engaging with us, and using our favorite hashtags #LeisureLife, and #LeisureArts!
Stay Creative, and Enjoy National Craft Month!
