  • The Therapeutic Benefits of Needle Crafting

Our January campaign is Taking Care of You, and we are focusing on the benefits of crafting, and how reserving a little bit of time out of the day to craft will change your attitude for the better. Needle crafting holds a wide range of crafts, from simple sewing, to textured embroidery, all the way to punch needle!

The meditative action of stitching gives you a mindless feeling that just relaxes you. The extra bonus is that you have a beautiful project that you can show off to your friends and family. Check out all of the fun ways you can incorporate needle crafting into your craft resumé, and feel better doing it!

Simple Stitches for the Free Spirit

Free Spirit Stitching - Book 7228

If you're a novice with needlepoint but still want to discover the therapeutic benefits of the craft, then try these simple sewing projects from Free Spirit Stitching! These projects are great for the beginner that is just wanting to learn the basics with with a fun twist. You can create great patterns and colorful decor using just simple stitches and even easy materials like hot glue. Jump into needle craft with a simple project from this book, and fall in love with how relaxing and fun it is!

    Stitchery

Blue Voyage Stitchery Kit - Item #49810

    Stitchery Kits - www.leisurearts.com

Embroidery! A whimsical craft that takes a lot of patience and focus. When it comes to stitching designs, you're usually stuck with the old-fashioned house with the white picket fence, or the generic stitched red heart. With our new line of Stitchery Kits, you won't be disappointed! We've come up with modern and unique designs that will stand out like a sore thimble (in good way). Each packaged design comes with the embroidery hoop, canvas wrap, and all the thread you could possibly need to create these colorful artworks. The best part about these designs, is that they are pre-printed on the canvas provided, so you don't have to worry about being off on your line work! Just follow the lines, and watch as your embroidered piece jumps off the hoop. That's what makes this craft so relaxing, you don't have to worry about completing a whole section in one day for fear of losing your place. You can pick it up and craft any time you want, and pick up right where you started. It's kind of a similar feeling to finishing a Diamond Art Canvas, but you can read all about that in our last therapeutic benefits blog (The Therapeutic Benefits of Diamond Art).

    Punch Needle

Modern Punch Needle - Book 7513

Punch Needle is a great traditional needle craft that has taken a modern twist recently, as you can see above! Modern Punch Needle by Bérénice Robert shows us how to take the Punch Needle craft and reinvent it to make it look fresh and new with bold colors and fun textures. This craft is as easy as buying the items and stitching away to your design! The cloth is super pliable and easily lets the punch needle thread work its magic to create an effortless design that works up in no time! You can add a new abstract throw pillow to your couch, or embellish your favorite purse or jacket the choices are endless for incorporating this craft into your daily life. Not only will the benefits of trying this craft become a meditative practice for you, but you'll have a comfy and cute accessory for your wardrobe or home décor.

    Craft

    Living Coral

    Hoops Hooray 7251

This project from Hoops Hooray is a great example of reinvention of needle craft materials. This project uses traditional sewing materials like an embroidery hoop, and transforms it into a great way to de-clutter your crafting area! Needle Crafting doesn't have to be these grandiose projects that take forever to make. You can start with fun, small projects like these that not only help you practice your simple stitching skills, but help you organize and, in turn, relax.

    Quilting/Sewing

Quilted Wall Hangings - Book 7493

When you get comfortable with those beginner needle craft projects, you can move onto more intricate projects like this project from Quilted Wall Hangings! This dreamcatcher will catch all of those nightmares and take your stresses away with the bright colors and fun geometric patterns it has to offer. This is a fun and unique way to reinvent Quilting and Sewing and get a relaxing result at the same time.

  • The Therapeutic Benefits of Diamond Art

Studies show that only 10 percent of crafters do one craft, so branch out with diamond dotting! By now, you all have seen our wonderful Diamond Art canvases floating around online and in craft stores near you. We've got a wide range of designs that go from simple cherry blossom branches, to full scale succulent gardens, and we love the feedback you guys have been giving us on every single kit. Hopefully you haven't just seen it in stores, but you've gone out and bought one to try for yourself! Since the new year just came about, you need to think about you and what makes you happy. This craft is perfect for mediation and self reflection, and has designs for every kind of maker.

Diamond Art is an extremely relaxing craft, one that you can work on at your own pace, and on your own time. It's often compared to another relaxing craft that's been around a lot longer: jigsaw puzzles! Diamond dotting is much better. Diamond Art is a more creative and dazzling alternative to the 'same old, same old' of jigsaw puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles have always proven to be a problem in the long run. If you lose a piece, your project is ruined, the hunt to find the pieces takes forever and a half, and the finished product doesn't preserve well. Diamond painting is a stress relieving craft, and yields a beautiful diamond encrusted canvas at the end of your craft experience.

Advanced Hot Air Balloon - #50451

You get to paint with 13-faceted diamonds on luxury fabric, and follow along an easy color-coded chart. The sky is the limit for the artwork you can diamond dot - create anything from beautiful landscapes like these Hot Air Balloons (above), to cute animal portraits! We promise that once you start diamond painting, you won't be able to stop.

    Diamond Art

    Color Coding System Diamond Art

We use a charting system that is color coded and easy to follow, as you can see above. This allows you to follow along and easily pick up where you left off, making this a craft with no time restrictions. You can finish it on your  time, no stressful deadlines guaranteed! Every space on your chart is color coded and charted out with a specific number code. The effort of finding your area to dazzle is so small, you won't even realize that you've finished half of your canvas already!

The colors from the uncharted canvas are so close to the colors of the gems, that you don't really have to think about what you're diamond dotting. just pick a gem pack and dot away! It can be easily stored for later too, so you can pick it up again on a rainy day. Our gems may be tiny, but if kept well, they are super easy to keep track of. The best part is that we provide you with extra gems in your kits, just in case an accident happens!

    2019 Dazzlemania Contest Entries

Once you're done with your canvas, there are tons of options to show it off. Why stick with just a boring old picture frame, when you can have it on a pillow? Or, turn it into a wall hanging with extra craft accents like yarn! You can even use the extra beads, and put them on your shoes. There are endless possibilities for displaying your new artwork, unlike a puzzle, which I promise you, would not look good glued to a pair of Air Force Ones.

Start the new year off right with this relaxing craft that makes beautiful gifts for yourself and others. If you've done Diamond Art before, be sure to tag us @leisureartsinc, or use #leisurearts so we can see what's going on in your studio!

    Happy Diamond Dotting!

  • A True Blue for 2020: Pantone's Color of the Year

Pantone has done it again. They've churned out a rockin' choice for 2020's color of the year: Classic Blue! Living Coral is a thing of the past, and here we are, admiring another bright, beautiful, and bold color. Pantone drew from the feeling of resilience in their color choice this year, hoping that the warmth from Classic Blue will "bring a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge." This stable and strong hue resembles the night at dusk, aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity.

Check out what the executive director of Pantone's Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, had to say about Classic Blue.

"Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era"

The color has already become a popular shade that's being incorporated into living rooms, clothing, art, and home decor. We love it so much, we've already started using it in some of our more recent projects (*laughs in suspenseful foreshadowing tone*). We all know that the best way to a fresh start is a fresh space, and it couldn't be more true for us makers. Here are some great Leisure Arts tips and tricks on how you can incorporate Classic Blue into your 2020 life.

Classic Blue + Diamond Art = The Perfect Match

    DIY Diamond Art

    Blue Dahlia Welcome home Sign

We love how effortless and easy Diamond Art is. Classic Blue is all about finding the strength and stability we need to build the foundation for the next era. Why not build that foundation with dazzling 13 faceted diamonds? Our Beginner Blue Dahlia  (above) has the perfect shade range to satisfy your new hunger for Classic Blue. The gems make the flower stand out in any room, and give your space that relaxing feel that will put you in the perfect creative state. You can get creative with Diamond Art and take it to the next level, as you see above. The blue dahlia elevates this basic welcome home sign and transforms a foyer into a creative and unique space. We have some brand new designs coming in 2020 that feature this classic blue too, so stay tuned for those! Maybe you'll see some sneak peeks from us in the future (wink, wink).

Ring In The New Year with Resin

Add a whimsical accent in Classic Blue to your home with our DIY Resin Pour Kits! Resin is really similar to paint pouring, but with a shinier and glossier finish. our color kits give you everything you need to elevate the classic home decor piece into an abstract artwork that looks like it came straight out of Pier 21. Use any of our four colorant kits to decorate the surface of fun things like coasters, cheeseboards, serving trays, and more! This Blue Colorant Kit has a great hue to it that matches the classic blue of 2020, and you can make it as dark or as light as you want it to be!

Live It Up With Classic Blue Staples in Crochet

Everyone needs a fashion staple in their closet, make yours Classic Blue! This hooded poncho from Homespun Comfort Shawls brings a modern take to a classic fashion accessory. Add an oversized button to make this look functional and fashion forward, and you've got a great light layer that can be worn during more than one season. Use lightweight yarn for a lacy finish, or use a bulky weight yarn to get a thicker coat for those windy mornings. The choice is up to you! All we know is that this classic blue makes any accessory look good, in all weights and styles of yarn.

Knit Yourself A New 2020 Aesthetic

For the knit obsessed crafters, we have some great versatile patterns for you try. If you've been searching for simple and sophisticated patterns that can go with any getup, look no further. Modern Knits is a book full of these great neutral patterns with pops of color. This poncho features a great swash of Classic Blue as an accent. This color blocked pattern can work with just about any color, but we're just a little biased with this blue hue.

    Quilt/Sew Fun With Embroidery Hoops

Play with traditional quilt patterns and reinvent them with these projects from Quilted Wall Hangings. Classic blue makes a great contrasting accent against this sunny yellow, and the tassels are a great modern addition to the traditional dream catcher. This project is the perfect mix of traditional and modern, and there's plenty more projects just like it in this book.

Classic Blue was chosen by Pantone to bring you stability, comfort, and strength. Hopefully, we've given you some inspiration for you to create some powerful and creative projects. Start the new year with bold, bright, and brave choices! If you've made any of these projects, then tag us @leisureartsinc or use #leisurearts. We'd love to see what's going on in your studios.

    Happy Decorating!

The instructions are easy-to-follow and calls for a cute ribbon and adhesive glue to make this beautiful box.

Read on for a tutorial on how to use some DIY magic to make a dazzling and fancy box. This is a tutorial that works with almost every kit design we've created, but in this case, we decided to go colorful using our Diamond Art Deer and Rainbow Kit.

    Supplies

    •  Diamond Art Deer and Rainbow Kit
    • Paint, white or your favorite color!
    • Paint brushes
    • Strong Adhesive Backing (glue, double-sided adhesives, etc.)
    • Wood Box (8X8 inches) (varies by type and size, but MUST have a solid surface)
    • Scissors
    • Ribbon
    • OPTIONAL - Extra Accessories (stickers, extra gems, etc.)

Get Started on Your Wooden Box!

    1. Make the Diamond Art Deer and Rainbow Kit

Bring out your creativity with a dip, dot, and dazzle! Sparkle Art is meant to be a leisurely craft that lets you put the canvas away for the moment or come back to it later in time if you wanted to. Complete it in one day, or within hours, the choice is up to you, just let your imagination run wild!

    2. Craft Your Wooden Box

Paint your wooden box white or your favorite color to give your project a hint of your personality. You can be as creative as you want with your brush and strokes. Paint and then let sit for an hour to let the paint dry! Then after the box is dry, adorn the box with your favorite ribbon. We used a ribbon around the box bottom and the lid. But feel feel to use one or both ribbons because the world and the box is your oyster. Our favorite is a cute iridescent ribbon that helps the Diamond Art sparkle!

    3. Cut Out Your Diamond Art Fabric

After you've glittered your way to success, carefully cut out your design, and get ready to customize! Our fabric frays minimally, so you don't have to worry about mending the edges before placing the design on your wooden box (but you certainly can if you want to). Now, you're finally ready to place your canvas onto your wooden box, using your adhesive of choice and a steady hand. Make sure to lay out the design flat, and smooth the canvas out for air bubbles once placed. Place the Diamond Art Deer and Rainbow on the fabric and apply the adhesive.

    4. Accessorize (Or Don't)!

Now that your Sparkle Art design is placed, all that’s left are finishing touches. Make your wooden box is one of a kind by adding extra accessories around the edges, going crazy with color combinations with additional ribbons, or even adding extra stickers here and there. Show the world how creative you can be with your Diamond Art and show off your imagination with the finishing touches. Let your creativity run wild to your heart’s content, and then muah! It's as simple as that and it’s beautiful. This is a great and unique way to utilize your Sparkle Art canvas to the fullest and have a special location for your jewelry or more!

If you try your hand at this, share it to our Diamond Art Facebook Page or Tag us @LeisureArtsInc for a special shoutout. We'd love to see what's going on in your studio.

  • Lion Brand Color Inspiration - Kombucha Orange!

Hello Again, Makers! We're getting inspired this week by a certain burnt orange color. We're talking about Kombucha from our list of Lion Brand Yarn's colors of the year for 2019.

Lion Brand Colors Of The Year 2019 - Kombucha

Lion Brand has compiled a list of great colors for 2019, and every month we pick a hue and match some of our favorite Leisure Arts patterns to the color palette. Here's a little more information on Kombucha:

"The name Kombucha is synonymous with the wellness trend that has permeated the zeitgeist over the last few years. The rich warm brown is more than a color, it is a philosophy that coincides with crafting. Talking the time out of the technology overload of your day to make something with your two hands is an integral part of self-care."

Sounds right up our alley! Kombucha is a great warm transition color from fall into winter, and we have some really great Lion Brand Yarns on our website to showcase the different color variations of Kombucha you can play with. Heartland - Yosemite is a perfect color match to the main color of kombucha (below), and Hometown - Tampa Spice (below) is a darker tone that would give any of your projects dimension if you laced these two hues together.

    Heartland - Yosemite - Item 126175

    Hometown - Tampa Spice - Item 126108

    Crochet

Mindful Mandala Afghans - Book #6890

Work your kombucha color into some mandala magic! This pattern from Mindful Mandala Afghans features kombucha as a great accent with the teal and neutral blanket. This afghan can keep you warm on a chilly day, or dress up your couch with some geometric style. This is a project that takes a little effort and a chunk of time, but in the end you come out with a beautiful statement blanket that looks good year round in your home.

Mirror Image Scarves - Book #6805

Mirror Image Scarves are some of the most satisfying patterns you can crochet, because everything lines up perfectly and your lacework comes out symmetrical. This fall toned scarf features a darker side of kombucha, but it pairs so well with the bright mustard yarn next to it. You even pair up the kombucha color with a light blue, or even a multicolored yarn if you wanted to. The main point is that the scarf ends up symmetrical no matter what yarn you use, so it's easy to make, and fun to wear.

Enchanted Forest Creatures - Book #6851

Who wouldn't want this crochet amigurmi fox? Enchanted Forest Creatures is full of mystical and magical patterns of woodland garden friends and cuddly animals. You can make this adorable fox in kombucha orange, or make a fun garden gnome to give your herbs some good luck! These patterns work up super quick, so this is definitely a unique beginner project to get you started in crochet.

    Knit

    Knit Cowls - Book #5838

Cowls are a fall fashion staple, and this cowl pattern from Knit Cowls has got some great color work going on. The kombucha is a great accent to the reds and browns, and the scalloped edges of the cowl make this garment look lacy and luxurious. This is an accessory that can be worn not just into winter, but maybe even into those cool spring mornings.

    Cozy Scarves - Book #7370

Scarves make the best gifts, even if it's just a gift for yourself. This pattern from Cozy Scarves looks good in kombucha orange, and the texture and pattern looks super easy to make. You can even play with the coziness of the scarf by varying the weight and texture of the yarn you choose. This is a great starter project for someone who's learning how to knit!

    Decorator Throws - Book #7112

Kombucha is a tone of orange that pairs well with other colors, like this color blocked throw pattern from Decorator Throws. These colors normally wouldn't be placed together, but somehow it works! The whole throw makes any couch stand out with the colorful yarn, making it a statement blanket.

    Craft

Modern Punch Needle - Book #7513

Modern Punch Needle gives you a window into an old craft that's making a comeback, and that's super easy to learn. This storage pouch with a kombucha accent is a great décor item to hold your yarn or fabrics in, and you can change up the size of the pouch to whatever size you need! This geometric and modern design is perfect for a minimalist home, and it takes little effort to create.

Learn To Make Woven Wall Hangings - Book #7245

You can make modern and crafty wall art without knowing all of the background in crochet or knit. Learn To Make Woven Wall Hangings is a great resource for weaving intricate and colorful works of fiber at with simple and easy to follow directions. You can make these projects in just a few hours, and have a boho chic piece of wall art for your living room!

    Quilt/Sew

Big Block Quilts - Book #6478

Quilts bring a unique and eclectic style to the home, each one different with it's patterns and textures. Big Block Quilts gives you all the opportunities to get crazy and creative, especially with this pattern shown above. The oranges and purples are surprisingly well tied together with accents of red in the florals and stripes of the design. This is definitely a project that would take a lot of work to compete, but you know it would be worth it.

    Crafty Critters - Book #6644

This pincushion from Crafty Critters is not only adorable, but it's functional too (just ignore that you're stabbing an adorable fox with pins). You can create this adorable fox pincushion in kombucha orange with simple stitches and some creativity! You can even dress up the fox like you see above, giving it a bow tie for that special '007 look. This little stunner is a must have in your sewing room.

Aren't these projects beautiful? If you've made these projects before, tag us @leisureartsinc or use #leisurearts so we can see what's going on in your studios.
