  • Christmas in July–Plastic Canvas

Hey Plastic Canvas People! I know your still out there. I can see the signs of your searches on LeisureArts.com, so I’m certainly not going to leave you out of our Christmas in July festivities…

I’ve got a soft spot for the folks that stitch plastic canvas. It’s the first needlecraft I really learned how to do as a kid (well, the first after my mother tried to teach me crewel embroidery, one grandma tried to teach me to crochet, and the other tried to teach me to quilt—all unsuccessfully). And it’s the first category I worked on when I got a job here at Leisure Arts as a writer. Eventually I became managing editor of the Plastic Canvas Department. So, yes, still a soft spot…

And I know from experience that you Plastic Canvas people like your Christmas projects (they make great little gifts, home décor, and fundraiser projects), so I thought I’d share some of my favorite classic Leisure Arts Plastic Canvas publications with you (I’m pretty sure I worked on all but maybe one of them):

Christmas Magnets in Plastic Canvas by Dick Martin—These 16 gold metallic braid-embellished magnets include Angel Mouse, Dove, Dog, Angel, Snowman, Bell, Bear, Santa Mouse, Cat, Train, Horn, Santa, Candle, Wagon Mouse, Mrs. Mouse, and Nutcracker.

Candy Cane Santas in Plastic Canvas by Dick Martin—Features 14 Santa and candy cane-embellished projects, including a door hanging, tissue box cover, coaster, ornaments, and magnets.

Santa, Bears & Bells by Janelle Giese—These fuzzy little collection of Santas, bears, and bells will be the hit of your holiday decor.

Santa’s Special Delivery by MizFitz—It’s filled with festive designs including ornaments, gift bags, a photo frame, card holder, tree skirt, and more!

It’s Holiday Time by Virginia & Michael Lamp—These adorable designs will take you all the way from Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day to Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas!

The Best of Dick Martin ChristmasThis big book’s got a little something for everybody from ornaments, to tissue box covers, and more!

  • 20 Years at Leisure!

We had a party yesterday! We celebrated Janie’s 20th anniversary at Leisure Arts with BBQ and cake.

Janie has worked her way around the company in those years. From pattern tester to plastic canvas production assistant, to charting plastic canvas and cross stitch, she had a hand in it. Next, she took on scrapbooking, helping out in our Design Department, and coordinating tradeshows. From there, she found a place for her skills in the Art Department. Now, she’s settled in Prepress. And she’s been a most appreciated asset in every position! (Forgive me, Janie, if I’ve left anything out!)

Congratulations Janie! Thank you for all your hard work over the years.
