I did it! I finished my glorious granny banner even before the autumnal equinox! If I don't set out any other fall decorations (HA HA HA HA HA HA), it won't matter because this banner of seasonal little granny pennants will have more than enough warm autumn tones for my whole living room.
I used Pattern #3 from 99 Granny Squares to Crochet for these lovely little triangles and whatever yarn I had on hand. I used worsted weight yarn, so these big boys are about 7" across. NOTE: See the updated version, 6393 - 99 Granny Squares to Crochet for newer shapes, patterns and colors.
I crocheted 12 granny triangles and connected them by crocheting across the tops. I chained for about 15" and worked single crochet stitches across each triangle, working 5 chain stitches in between each one. When I was through, I kept chaining for another 15" or so. I like to have fairly long tails on my banners in case I ever need to tie them to something. This one is just fastened with tape.
And now my living room is beautiful!
And by that I mean, my living room floor is beautiful.
I love this. I really do. It's one of the most fun projects I've done in a while. It combines my love of granny squares, fall colors, and banners--and I was super enthralled with my own creativity when it came to selecting and mixing these colors. My artistic vision worked out just how I wanted it to with this.
I know: talent and humility! Make me patron saint of granny square things already!
I love this banner, and I'm already wondering if I could get away with making another for my office. (Probably not.) It's just so danged good! If you were wanting to add some homemade touches to your fall decorations this year, you couldn't possibly go wrong with a granny banner.
Never mind my insane bias. No one else will have a banner like yours because that's the beauty of granny squares! You don't even have to limit yourself to Pattern #3. 99 Granny Squares to Crochet has, you know, 98 other options. You see #96, the hexagon with all the purples?
I have some plans forming around #96. Big plans. Just you wait. But for now, I'm going to revel in this banner a little while longer.....especially once I find the perfect spot for it.
