Weekly Dishcloth: Crocheting the Slanting Wedge Dishcloth

This week's dishcloth might be my new favorite!  Sometimes I think I say that a lot, but the Slanting Wedge pattern from Crochet Textures for Home & Baby is stinking fantastic.

To be honest, there aren't a lot of terrible dishcloth patterns out there because it doesn't get much cooler than dishcloths and I don't meet a lot of dishcloths I don't like.  But this is great.  You start off with foundation single crochets, and then you work the same series of 3 different stitches over and over.  That's it!  That's the whole dishcloth!

What I like is that the wedges slant in a different direction to make these nice textured, fan-like shells.

And obviously, this is a very textured dishcloth.  You wouldn't expect anything less from a book called Crochet Textures for Home & Baby, but this dishcloth will be excellent at scrubbing.

Also, it's a bit dense.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

The pattern calls for Lion Brand Nature's Cotton and a K hook, but I used Sugarn' Cream because that's what I always use.  I'm not even sure if Nature's Cotton is suitable for dishwashing purposes just because it seems like it would leave little fibers everywhere.  (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

So standard dishcloth yarn it was, and I used a G hook.  I probably should have used an H hook because this feels a bit stiff, but I'm sure everything will be fine after a few washings and some hard labor.  If you're going to use standard dishcloth cotton, just use whatever crochet hook you use for worsted weight yarn.  That's what I'm going to do the next time I make this.  Because I am definitely going to make this again.  I'd like to see how this looks with some variegated yarn, and I'd just like to make this dishcloth a few more times because I think it's going to be a great gift.

And this dishcloth is just plain great.
