Amelia McDonell-Parry

Writer | Craft Enthusiast | Weaver
Amelia McDonell-Parry has been making woven wall hangings since 2014, after a class with Australian weaving goddess Maryanne Moodie left her with her own lap loom and loads of inspiration. A freelancer writer and editor by day, Amelia was looking for a hobby that would relax her mind and keep her hands busy in her afterwork hours. A life-long interest in art had led her to try all sorts of crafts over the years — knitting, crochet, beading – but from the second her hands picked up a tapestry needle, she was in love. Weaving is a form of meditation, a way to calm her active brain while expressing her creativity. Her work has been inspired by the cultural history of fiber art in communities across the globe, the architecture in her Brooklyn neighborhood, the colors and textures found in nature and the melodies in her head that only her hands can hear. She sells her handwoven tapestries, as well as ceramics, on Etsy and is thrilled to be able to share her love of weaving with the world.
