Ria Paramita

Ria Paramita is an Indonesian embroidery artist living in Tokyo, Japan. She attended the Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia and received her bachelor's degree in Textile Design. After graduating, she had a stint as a Textile Design Lecturer at the School of Textile Technology in Bandung, then quit her job to follow her husband's career across the globe and became a full-fledged, stay-at-home mom.
Her love of embroidery began when she moved to Japan in 2012. The language barrier, cultural differences, and living far away from family and friends in a new country had eventually taken its toll, but thankfully she found her escape in hand embroidery. It’s the place where she could find peace and serenity.
Her first discovery was family portrait dolls, which also became her first signature design. Then came plush dolls, which were inspired by her daughter’s drawings. From those repeated projects she learned that she likes blending several techniques, such as crochet and sewing, as well as, embellishing with materials such as plastic pearls, tassels, pom-poms, and lace to enrich the details.
Then in 2013, she mustered enough confidence to open an online shop at Etsy. She was nervous at first, but after a while, she started to enjoy the process. She found that by accepting customized requests and listening to the customers’ stories, each product can exhibit a certain distinctiveness that she never thought about before.
